It was a competition "Battle of the Bands"
where Dan Estrin and Douglas Robb would compete against each other. They became so intrigued by one an other, they
wrote songs together and soon began to look for a bass player and drummer. Dan was in a band (Idiosyncratic) a long time
ago with Markku Lappalainen. So Dan and Doug decided to let him in the band as a bass guitarist. Later they held an add in
the recycler looking for a drummer. Chris Hesse found the add a quickly replied. Jeremy Wasser and Derek Kwan played in the
band as sax. players. Thus HoobUstank was born (1995)!
Hoobustank played gigs in Doug's backyard in L.A. with bands they grew up with, such as The
Pricks soon to be known as Linkin Park and Incubus. Later they played gigs at: The Troubadour, Cobalt Cafe, and The Roxy,
they also played shows for Agoura and Calabasas in local parks.
In 1997 Hoobustank recorded their first cd consisting only 10 tracks: Earthsick, Foot
in Your Mouth, Karma Patrol, Stuck Without a Voice, Can I Buy You a Drink, Naked Jock Man, Our Song,The Mirror, Educated Fool,
and The Dance That Broke My Jaw. This cd was soon to be titled "They Sure Don't Make Basketball Shorts Like They Used To".
This cd is very rare to come a cross. There are only a couple thousand. The band dosen't even have one. If your lucky you
may find it on e-bay.
The band's music began to change. They had to kick Jeremy and Derek out of the band.
"...We didn't all of the sudden decided to change musically..." Dan Estrin explains.
In August 2000 Hoobustank was signed to Island Records. They spent the next months
writting a new record.
The band decided to change their name. Instead changing the name the just decided to
change the way it was spelt. It was now spelt "Hoobastank".
The new record "Hoobastank" was recorded in November 2001. Shortly
after they made "Crawling in the Dark" the new single. The video was a hit. Later "Running Away" would be the next single.
The newest single is "Remember Me" the video has just been currently released. Right now they are on a break but also
still working on a new CD for us!
