* Dan: "I started playing guitar when I was 13. A friend of mine in the neighbourhood could play and I thought that was kinda cool. I asked my Dad if I could take lessons for six months and after that I taught myself how to play by listening to tapes or CDs. I'd jam at school and play guitar in the house band and play covers. That was the first time that I performed in front of anyone at 15 playing in front of 500 people. We played one song, left the stage and I was hot. It was an amazing feeling and that was when I knew I wanted to play music in front of people. Later on in high school I got together and started to write songs. We played the Whiskey in Hollywood once and did some parties. We had a four-track and we recorded songs on that."

* Doug: "I started playing guitar when I was 13 as well so I'm a guitar player by choice. In high school in my senior year, my best friend started a band so I filled in as a bass player and we had to audition for this battle of the bands where we played with (Dan's) band. I knew Dan from classes but that was the first time we did anything musical together. My first performance was the auditions I guess.  The judging council were all friends of mind and we were doing this Alice In Chains cover and I was so nervous that I could hardly hold the pick. I was so unbelievably nervous. After it was done I was so thrilled but I don't know if it was cos I loved playing or was glad it was over. I was filled with adrenaline. Shortly after that our two bands split up and we started writing together. I got forced into the singing position cos (Dan) was a better guitar player than I was by default."

* Doug plays guitar in four songs in the new album, The Reason.
