the Hoobastank Message Board, 8/1/03: HOOBASTANK ROCKS FOR EDUCATION Playing
Benefit at The Canyon (Agoura Hills, CA) On July 15th To Raise Money To Hire Teachers
Island platinum recording
artists HOOBASTANK will be playing a benefit for the brand new Alice C. Stelle Middle School, which was recently built in
their hometown of Calabasas, CA. The school is set to open in the fall but is now facing financial roadblocks due to Californias
$38billion deficit and cutbacks in the educational system. This benefit show at The Canyon (28912 Roadside Drive, Agoura Hills,
CA) on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 was been established to raise funds for staffing of teachers and acquiring teaching supplies
for the upcoming school year.
The community really needs this new middle school, says LeeAnn Wade, President of the
Alice C. Stelle Middle School Parent Faculty Club. Itll ease the overcrowding at the current middle school and allow both
schools to implement student-centered programs in smaller learning environments. Its truly great that these young men want
to give back to their community and help a new neighborhood school.
When we found out that this new school couldn't
be finished because of lack of funds, we knew we had to do something about it, says Hoobastank guitarist Dan Estrin. Doug
[Robb, vocalist] and I worked with kids for six years before our band got signed so we understand how important this school
is to our community. We are so stoked to be playing this show and helping out in any way that we can."
All of the proceeds
from ticket sales will be given directly to the parent group to purchase what the teachers need at the school. There is tremendous
support for education in Calabasas and Hoobastank is an example of this, Wade adds. We are extremely thankful to Hoobastank
for donating their time and talent (and, a lot of money, in the end) to help provide new musical instruments, new PE equipment,
state-of-the-art science labs, computers, and many more things for the new school. We could not be more grateful.
The
concert is open to the public. Tickets cost $19.50 in advance and $24.50 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the box
office or at Ticketmaster.
* Alittle
up date from Dan Berman (The man who does Hoobastank's site and more). This is off the message board, 6/26/03.:Being that the band is out in Hawaii right now, it just wouldnt be right to call them
and get a journal update. So this weeks journal entry is from me.
We were all just in NYC for the past few days for
the photo shoot. I flew in Saturday afternoon so I could be out there for Saturday night, and the rest of the band got in
Sunday evening. We all stayed at this nice hotel near the label. Its right in the middle of the city so pretty much everything
was at our disposal. Sunday night was pretty low key: Doug, Chris and Markku went to our friend Billys to play some 4way Halo
while Dan and I went off and did our own thing.
On Monday the band went around town looking for clothes for the shoot
and that stuff. Cant tell you much more than that because I spent my day at the label getting work done. We all met up around
5 and then went out with a lot of the label people and friends. Good food and better drinks. Everyone except Doug went to
bed early since we had to wake up so early the next day. Doug, Billy and I went to this place in the city called the Soul
Café. Had all these poets and rappers. That ended up being really fun. Doug had to crash around one so hed be alive in the
morning.
Next morning we get picked up at 8:30 for the shoot. Mind you thats 5:30 our time. We get to this place,
and damn. The shoot was in this ladys apartment down across the water from the Statue of Liberty. This huge place 6 stories
up. I guess JLo shot one of her videos there or something. Everything except my three hours of sleep was great, the band loved
the shoot so much more than the first one. It was so much more laid back and everything, and the ladys dog was cruising around
the whole time which made it like we were all just hanging out all day. Also, this time the band got to play around a lot
more and take photos that they wanted to take, so youll all have some good ones coming your way. Maybe Ill even post some
of the photos I took before you see the real ones.
Maybe.
After we were done in the apartment we walked around
a little bit and the photographer took some great outdoors shots. Look out for Chris doing the ancient technique of the triple
attack in some of those.
After that, Dan and I cruised around the city a bit while the rest of the guys finished playing
Halo, then we all met up for drinks and dinner. About 20 or so of us went to some place and ate a whole lot of good food.
After a few hours there we went a few blocks to some pub. Im not sure I should go into any more there. Ill tell you it ended
in another 3 hour sleep night. Maybe 4. Oh well, thats what the plane back is for.
The band connected to a flight
to Hawaii the next morning. I somehow made it back, had a nice little sleep, and typed this for you. Ill post more photoshoot
details soon enough.
Love, The other dan
P.S. the dogs name was Maggie.

*Up Date from Chris Hesse. Off the Hoobastank Message Board (July 24, 2003):Just when you thought we were done.....We're BACK in the studio! Actually, we thought
we were done too, already started mixing the record and coming up with artwork ideas (which, by the way, if anyone has some
artistic abilities and ideas, send them our way)when a couple more song ideas came up that we liked. So now we're back in
the studio throwing down these ideas to tape and eating loads of chinese food!
We're scheduled to begin our headlining
tour on the 20th of August and we have a couple of shows locally to keep us busy till then (aug 2nd in huntington beach @
the US Open and Some fair grounds in San Diego)
I'm looking forward to touring again, riding around in the bus with
3 of my best friends, playing the new songs for y'all. I hope everyone is ready because we're right around the corner! I want
to see a lot of the same faces and some new ones too. thank you for your continued support as we're working to put out another
album. see you soon

* Dan's guitar has been returned.
*Dan's stolen guitar at the benifit show. (Posted by Dan Estrin on the Hoobastank message boards (July
17, 2003)):Just to let everyone know...
The
day of the Canyon Club benifit show the band and i had sound check at around 5:00pm. at around 6:15pm, we left the stage with
our friends and our road crew to eat dinner in another room in the club. In between 6:15 and 7:15pm some mother fucker walked
up on stage and stole one of my guitars. Talk about bullshit...We do a show in our home town to make money for a good cause
and some asshole steals my guitar. where was the security? There are 16 video cameras at the club and they cover all exits.
The tapes are being reviewed now. If anyone knows anything about this, let the person that took it know, i will press charges
if it was caught on tape. Or, they can just UPS or FED EX it back to the club with out a return address and i'll let it go.
Now here is what i think... either someone snuck into the club in between those times and had huge balls and took it. Or someone
who works at the club that knows about the cameras took it. I am torn between those two. I also think it is shitty that neither
the club or the people we made all that money for have offered to replace it. We did everything we could to help out with
the benifit. We made no money what so ever. If anyone has any info on this or just wants to respond, let me know.
It
was a fun show though!

* Alittle update from Chris Hesse
5/22/03. Off the Hoobastank message board):Hello everyone, this
is chris with your periodic journal entry.
We're almost done recording the record, just a few vocal parts to change
and then it's on to mixing. We're gearing up to start playing shows again for the first time in almost half a year. Let me
tell you, it sounds rough.......really rough! We're rehearsing a bunch though so by the time we're in your neighborhood we
will be rocking it true form.
It's starting to get really hot here in LA, the last couple of days have been in the
100's. Dan's pool is getting pretty warm and we've been making good use of it. Dan sat out so long yesterday that he can hardly
move due to a bad sun burn. He currently resembles a lobster but it should turn into a nice tan.
I hope everyone is
doing well, we've had a great time at home and are ready to hit the road again, please come out and see us when we're in town,
we have some new songs which I promise will please the ear.
see you soon
peace hoobachris

* A little up date
from Dan E.(off the Hoobastank Message board. 3/31/03): Hello everyone. I hope you are all doing well. Here is a little
update on what we have been doing recently...
We started recording the new record about two weeks ago. Chris finished
all his drum tracks and now we are working on guitars and bass. We have around 15 songs that we will record and probably 12
will go on the record. We're working Monday through Friday around 10 hours a day on this. For the past week I have been sitting
in a room recording my guitars for hours while the other guys play Playstation 2 and X Box. Doug, Chris and Markku are getting
really good at Halo. I cant wait to finish up and get back out on tour. We should start touring again late June/ early July.
Hopefully we will see you all the first time we come through your city.
